Who would have ever thought when I spotted Helen on the the Beebe (AR) Humane Society petfinder page, that within a few days a whole new world would be opening for us!! Jaxie, who runs the most wonderful shelter there, told me that someone had found Helen in the middle of the highway spinning and stopped, thinking she had been hit. That's when they discovered she was blind and brought her to Jaxie. We asked lots of questions and Jaxie referred us to aussielads and amazingaussies, from there were discovered LethalWhite aussie group, etc. and we decided that Helen was for us. NEVER have we regretted that decision (well, maybe once for about 5.2 seconds!) She has literally changed our lives, maybe in some ways more than we changed hers.
She is a wonder dog, a velcro dog, truly and fearlessly independent within the parameters of her home and her people. She craves love and gives it in return, and her navigation skills are a marvel. She quickly made it known that she intended to sleep in our bed with us, since that is the only place she feels totally safe at night, and that is indeed where she sleeps, sometimes (grudgingly) allowing Linda and I tl sleep next to each other!
She interacts with our three "normal" dogs, wrestling and playing bite-face with them, and she has special toys that she adores.
She does very well with her harness and leash walking the track at the park, and she circles only when agitated or when she smells her meals being prepared.
We thank God every day for allowing us the opportunity to be Helen's caretakers and family. It has truly been a life-changing experience.

They do change the way we look at life, don't they?
Jeff, it is soooo good to see you and your family here! Thank you for posting Helen's story!
One of our posters, efc, I think, has figured out how to use the image button, which you use with a browser addy. I unfortunately have not yet figured this out.
We will go to a paying board when we can get the membership up to 50 or more.
When you can track a dog from beginning to destination, it is a beautiful thing, I think!
Thank you so much for telling us about Helen. You can link a website, until I figure out the image button Embarassed
THANK YOU FOR POSTING! I was so excited when I opened the board tonight! Laughing
